I realize that my posts are sporadic at best and I can't tell you what
inspires me to write when I do (well I could on this particular
occasion but that's probably best kept to myself) but it's better than
never writing at all, even though I'm fairly certain that when I do
write here, it's really only for me and the occasional marketer who
stumbles upon me and thinks, "Hey, this person looks like they want to
know how to become independently wealthy in just 30 seconds using only
a computer and a Bobby pin."
But I'm writing none the less and at least someday, if anything
newsworthy and tragic befalls me, Fox news will have something to
broadcast to illuminate the inner workings of my mind.
I've spent a lot of time in the last several months contemplating my
life, where I am and how I got here. I have an amazing family and two
beautiful, intelligent, witty and independent children. I suppose if
anything, that may entirely be the only purpose to my life so far. I
used to say I have no regrets and when it comes to my babies, I don't
but I find myself wondering how my life might have been different if
not for a handful of choices I made along the way. That's what life is
all about really, choices.
It's not the obvious ones that concern me. I know that I'm a
stronger person for having made some of the mistakes that I've made
and I wouldn't have learned the lessons that I had, had I not made
those choices. It's not the major decisions that others have made that
directly impacted my own life.
It's the little things like whether or not to turn right or left at a
specific stop sign, deciding to go out or stay in on a particular
occasion or whether or not to just simply play a game, like Scrabble or Checkers
for instance. A lot of times, those seemingly inoccuous choices may
end up having huge consequences. Perhaps if I had left just a few
seconds earlier, I would have gotten to a point in the road where a
driver would have swerved directly into my lane and it would have been
Goodnight for me.
It's really just musing on my part and I have nothing concrete to
confirm or deny that any of those choices weren't simply just an act
of fate. But it does have me wondering where I would be now if not for
a simple choice I may have made even in high school and for the first
time in my life, I think I finally feel a little regret for missed
opportunities. I can't help but wonder what parts of my life might
have been altered if I hadn't missed them.
So next time your standing in a store line and wondering if you should
move over to the next one, perhaps take a few more seconds to
contemplate it. Maybe that one decision could change your life.
